So, last wednesday my now ex-hosting provider, globat.com, had a screw-up with their handling of my databases and basically destroyed them forever. And for some reason they could never explain to me (and my programmer friends couldn’t figure out either) all my healthy database backups didn’t work when replaced. When I contacted them they just repeated time after time in that typical corporate speech: “sorry for the inconvenience sir, you’ll have to manually rebuild your website. Regards”.
Well yes I did, but on another hosting company!
It was very stressful, since I’m no programmer and having my portfolio down while having to figure out how databases work was driving me insane. But I did it! And now my domains are being transferred to my new hosting provider.
Lesson learned: No matter if your website is peacefully sitting there untouched, no matter how many backups you do, sometimes things just implode and you have to start over. It’s painful, it’s unfair. But keep calm and get to work ASAP if this ever happens to you, be it with websites, apps, your videogame before a presentation or anything in this life.
